Before having kids, I had no idea just how much of my energy would go into feeding them. Maybe it’s because my children are so active—my 12-year-old daughter dances every day, while her eight-year-old brother does taekwondo, swims, and takes hip-hop and tap lessons—but it feels like I hear the words, “I’m hungry,” every fifteen minutes some days! Because our home is so busy, and I’m constantly ferrying the kids to their activities, I’m always looking for decent snacks to throw at the kids, and Slammers have become a staple in their lunches and sports bags.
As much as I’d love to handcraft healthy snacks for my children, who has the time for that? I’ve come to realize over the years that most store bought snacks – especially the ones my children want most – are not actually that healthy and I might as well be giving them junk food. I love that when they enjoy a Slammers, they’re getting a nutrient packed portion of fruit and veggies that’s giving them energy to do what they love.
When my kids were little, they loved applesauce pouches, so Slammers was an easy sell to them. They love all the flavors, and I love that some of the crushed superfoods that Slammers includes are things that my son would never eat if I served them up to him — such as beets, pomegranates, amaranth – combined with ingredients the kids already crave such as strawberries, blueberries, carrots, mangoes, apples, and banana. The fact that all these ingredients are USDA certified organic makes me really happy, and I feel like I’m supporting their growing bodies and minds with minimal effort on my part!
